What do we want submitted?

We will accept any artwork that relates to the discriminatory casting of The Last Airbender...but not only that! We also want artworks that celebrate the TRUE diversity of the origional show!
Also welcome are pieces that focus on discriminatory casting in other movies (Prince of Persia Dragonball, 21 etc....)

In April 2009 through August 2009, Racebending.com surveyed our supporters on our livejournal community and via facebook. In just three days we received more than 400 responses. Here are the results taken from over 1,200 responses!

Hey everyone one we have a new folder, it's called "The Candle Project." There is a group here on DA called ATLA-Candle-Project, the candle project is about protecting the Avatar: The last airbender show and telling people not to judge the show by the movie. We are affiliated with them and they have been sending us some pictures (of candles,) These pictures are not really related to the racebending of the movie, but I thought some of our members might be interested in what these people from the candle project have to say. I agree that we defiently shouln't judge the movie by the series(not that I ever would) and I thought some of you guys would too so that's what I made the folder for. I have told them to please send thier deviantions to that folder and if any of you guys want to draw something that dosn't really realate to the racebending or the diversity of the series and it's more about how the show was WAY better than the movie feel free to submit it to "The Candle Project" folder.

Not for nothin', but it kinda seems like the group is featuring just ordinary Avatar fanart these days, and not something inherently dealing with why M. Night's movie was idiotic on many levels or the cultural nuance of the original show. Any particular reason?

ah, yes. I can definatly see what you mean - its just that the controversy has died done a lot - also I had to remove all my pieces bacuse they used pictures that weren't mine....which is fair enough, but it really cut back all the protest art....

Ah, you responded after all this time! Well, I still think you could have hosted stuff, but I guess DA's policy is that you can't use screenshots without explicit permission, rather than just giving credit.

Well, we just keep truckin' on. The movie's long passed and a sequel looks more and more unlikely but we still have work with Akira and other productions!

Well, we just been getting more submissions like that. Feel free to submit something about he movie if you are concerned. Really, the movie is kinda over and it has all died down abit, however submissions about the racebending of the movie are still VERY welcome. Actually, we are thinking of expanding the group to talk more about other movies or shows that are being racebent (.... is that even a word?) Sorry if we have dissapointed you in anyway.

Oh no, I'm not dissapointed or anything, I was just wondering since it's mostly ordinary Avatar fanart, y'know? Expanding the group sounds like it's much-needed, keeping up with this phenomena is always going to be necessary.

Wow checked out your guys website and it was pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of the series anymore but I am all for racial equality in the media. That is so true "Aang can still save the world and be asian".I just love that quote. Keep up the good work guys. :)
